Our CSA Spring season ended last week and this is the first week of our 10 week Summer season. Summer vegetables are coming on strong with tomatoes, peppers, melons starting to produce recently. The May floods left us with some crop damage and we've had some hungry deer visit recently. Partnering with other local farms has helped us in this rough patch and we look forward to the rest of the summer. We have a very few shares available for any others who wish to join. Click here or just reply to this newsletter and we'll help you out.
Our large new flock of young laying hens this week started laying consistently. So we're ready for your egg orders now. We can deliver or meet you at a drop spot with your weekly order. As you know, a highly contagious flu has effected the egg supply all over the country. We're glad to be able to provide a steady supply of eggs for the foreseeable future. And our eggs are all natural, pasture raised, and fed only 100% organic non-GMO feed. You can sign up for eggs on our website and we'll start your order as soon as possible.
Though we're approaching the dog days of summer, it's time to think about preparing for those cool, crisp weeks around Thanksgiving and Christmas. We're taking orders for Holiday Turkeys this week. We need to see how many we'll need and place an order soon. Our incubation/hatching project has failed so far. Though we had great success hatching chicken eggs, we've been unable to get many turkeys using the same process. So we hope to order newly hatched poults next week, if we have enough folks interested in the turkeys. These will be heritage turkeys similar to those we raised last year. The price for the cleaned, ready to roast bird will be $6.50 per pound and we expect weights between 8 and 15 pounds each. A $25 deposit will hold yours until the holidays. Just reply to this email to let us know this week if you're interested.
This is just a few things going on this month. We're also continually moving cattle through lush pastures, harvesting a hive of honey, working on our berry patch and grape vines, weeding and mulching our asparagus patch, planting late summer varieties, and preparing the fall garden for planting. Thanks again for your support and interest in our farm. Remember we update our website and Facebook page regularly throughout the week, so drop by those when you can. Reply if we can help you in any way and we'll get right back to you.
Have a great July 4 celebration next week and we'll send you another update in a month or so.
